What did you do before you came to FBC?
I have been attending FBC since I has 1 ½ years old. We moved here in 1951 and this is where I have been ever since. I graduated from Marion High School and Southern IL University at Carbondale. I taught school for 35 years and after my retirement I became the Children’s coordinator here.
Where have I ministered before?
As a teacher I couldn’t technically minister to children but many times Jesus’s name was brought up and I answered all of the questions to the best of my ability and all my children knew that I loved Jesus. The teachers at Jefferson School would have a prayer time before school on Monday mornings which I always attended. We also had prayers when things were not going so well. I taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.
When did I ask Jesus into my heart?
I was 8 years old and we had a revival here at FBC and that is when I asked Jesus into my heart.
What have been the biggest tests of my faith?
I think the first test was when my father died suddenly 2 months before my wedding. He just came home from work with a sore throat, laid down and died. We struggled with why at such an early age Jesus took him home. Taking this job here at FBC was a big struggle too. I do not, and did not feel that I was worthy to work in a church since I had never been to seminary. The only training I had had was the 35 years in a classroom and of course the raising of my children. There were many prayers before I finally took this job. I know now that this is what Jesus wanted me to do with the second part of life.
In what way do I see the Lord ministering at FBC Marion?
I cannot tell you of the times that things have gone wrong in the nursery or the children’s areas and God has taken care of them. He has brought some of the most wonderful families to our church and most are so willing to help whenever I ask them. I can feel the prayers of our church family and they mean so much to me.
My biggest hobby is taking care of my grandchildren. It is such a pleasure to be able to help with them.
A favorite place to eat?
My favorite place to eat would be Olive Garden. I just wish we had one in Marion!!
A book I have read and would recommend besides the Bible.
As you can guess, most of the books I read are children’s books. I have several favorite authors, including Stephen Kellogg. But I have recently read a book by Frank Page, Melissa. I found it very personal and that everyone has problems!!
